From: Tannaz Rasouli or Mary Akchurin Re: Oliver North to Speak at Hopkins Iran-Contra figure Oliver North, a combat-decorated Marine, best-selling author and host of a nationally syndicated radio program, is coming to The Johns Hopkins University on Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2001 to take part in the 2001 Milton S. Eisenhower Symposium. North is one of nine speakers in this year's symposium, which focuses on the forces affecting the American political system and is entitled, "A Nation United: Politics and Power in the 21st Century." His lecture, "In the National Interest: Freedom and the Constitution," begins at 8 p.m. in Shriver Hall on the Homewood campus at 3400 N. Charles St. in Baltimore. His talk is free and open to the public. North, who graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy and served as a Marine for 22 years, was assigned to the National Security Council staff in the Reagan administration in 1981. He was involved in planning the rescue of 804 students on the island of Grenada and played a role in the capture of the hijackers of the cruise ship, Achille Lauro. North is also the author of two best-selling books, Under Fire and One More Mission. His columns have appeared in newspapers such as the Washington Times and the San Francisco Chronicle.
