Historic Textiles, Gallery Talk In conjunction with the exhibition Needles and Threads: Women's Handiwork, Men's Craftsmanship, Homewood House Museum wil offer "Historic Textiles: Caring For Your Collections & Discovery Day" on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2001 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., followed by a gallery talk and tea at 2 p.m. Participants will learn how to properly take care of historic textiles and can have textiles of their own examined by experts. A textile conservator will address issues and concerns about how to display and enjoy collections while being sensitive to conservation concerns. Proper storage, handling, treatment, and display will be discussed. Specialist Susan D. Kleckner, head of American folk art at Christie's in New York will be on hand to provide verbal evaluations. Admission to "Caring for Your Collections" is $8 for members and $10 for non-members. For an additional $10 per object, participants may bring in a textile object for a verbal conservation assessment and appraisal. Space is limited to 20 people and reservations are required. A 2 p.m. gallery talk by Catherine Rogers Arthur, curator of Needles and Threads: Women's Handiwork, Men's Craftsmanship, will follow the morning program. Tea will be served immediately after the talk in Homewood's wine cellar. Admission to the gallery talk and tea is $8 members and $10 for non-members. Space is limited to 20 people and reservations are required. A special full-day admission of $20 for members and $25 for non-members includes "Caring For Your Collections & Discovery Day," an appraisal of one object, and the gallery talk and tea.
