As part of the Johns Hopkins 2003 Symposium on Foreign Affairs, the French ambassador to the United States, Jean David Levitte, will explain his nation's position on the war in Iraq in a lecture on Wednesday, April 9, on the university's Homewood campus in Baltimore, 3400 N. Charles Street.

Levitte is scheduled to speak at 8 p.m. in the Glass Pavilion. He is appearing as part of the symposium, entitled, "Psyche of the State: The Commonality of Discontent," a student-run lecture series examining the role that governance plays in international affairs and internal conflict. The event is free and open to the public.

Before becoming the French ambassador to the United States, Levitte served as France's permanent representative to the United Nations. During that time, he helped develop a peace agreement between the warring factions in the Great Lakes Region of Africa. Levitte will discuss both the current war and the necessity of political stability for continued development of Africa.
