Lecture on Botanical Gardens at
the Baltimore Flower Mart

Beautifully illustrated classics in 19th-century horticulture from the George Peabody collection will be featured in a lecture on May 14 at 11:30 am at the Engineer's Club at 11 West Mount Vernon Place. Local landscape designer Doug Behr will present an illustrated lecture featuring magnificent images of botanicals from the George Peabody collection as he discusses how these plant materials are used in 21st century landscape design.

Behr has been designing gardens for residential clients in the Baltimore area for 20 years and graduated from Virginia Tech with a degree in landscape horticulture. He is a graphic designer for the Office of Design and Publications at the Johns Hopkins Homewood campus.

Selected books from the George Peabody Library will be on display at the lecture, including the Plantarum Historia Succulentarum by Augustin Pyramus de Candolle, featuring the stunning color plates of Pierre-Joseph Redoute and Charles Sprague Sargent's, The Silva of North America, with the exquisitely detailed engravings of Charles Edward Faxon.

The lecture is free and open to the public. The George Peabody Library is pleased to join in the festivities of the Baltimore Flower Mart, held in the heart of the Mt. Vernon Cultural District, and is grateful to the Engineer's Club for hosting this event while the library is closed for renovations.
