The trio Goombay will perform Caribbean music at noon on Wednesday, April 21, in Shriver Hall Auditorium on the Johns Hopkins University's Homewood campus, 3400 N. Charles St. in Baltimore.

Goombay, which takes its name from an annual celebration held in the Bahamas, will explore the contributions made by European, African and indigenous people to Caribbean music, as well as the historical and geographical context in which the music was written. The group will perform music of the Caribbean Islands, from Jamaica to Cuba. The musicians will also discuss the multilingual character of the islands and teach phrases in Spanish, French and Creole. Goombay's members are David Boothman on keyboard, steel drums and percussion; Diann Marshall performing vocals and dance; and Elizabeth Melvin on vocals, mallets and percussion.
