Homewood House Museum Offers a Taste of Rum

Join Homewood House Museum on the campus of The Johns Hopkins University for "An Evening of Traditional Beverages" from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, May 21, at Homewood House, 3400 N. Charles St. in Baltimore.

Guests will learn about rum from an historical point of view and as modern connoisseurs. Franklin Knight, professor of history at the Johns Hopkins University specializing in the Caribbean, will present a brief history of rum, which was an important commodity in the triangular trade between Africa, England and North America. The event will be held on the lawn at Homewood, where Knight will also lead a rum tasting. A social hour featuring hors d'oeuvres, rum punch and non-alcoholic beverages will follow the tasting. A rain location will be available, allowing the event to proceed regardless of weather.

Admission is $20 for Homewood members and $25 for the general public. For reservations and information, call 410-516-8639 or visit www.jhu.edu/historichouses.
