Lula Washington Dance Theatre Performs at Hopkins

The Lula Washington Dance Theatre, one of the West Coast s premier African American dance companies, will perform at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 13, in Shriver Hall on The Johns Hopkins University s Homewood campus, 3400 N. Charles Street in Baltimore.

Celebrating its 20th anniversary, the Lula Washington Dance Theatre is internationally recognized for its blend of African, modern, ballet, and jazz techniques. Choreographer Lula Washington has been acclaimed by critics for her dances powerful depiction of the African American experience, their strong political and social commentary, and their avant garde composition.

Baltimore s Will Lynch and the Voices of Heaven, formerly The Voices of Heaven 600, will make a guest appearance during the show, joining the dancers for a gospel suite. Following the performance, the audience will be invited to join a discussion.

This tour of the Lula Washington Dance Theatre is made possible by a grant from the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts Regional Touring Program. Tickets are $22 for general admission; $19 for seniors and $12 for full-time students with ID. Group discounts are available. For information, call the Johns Hopkins University Office of Special Events, 410-516-7157.
