Morning Star Performs at Evergreen

Morning Star, one of New York's most popular traditional Irish music groups, will perform at 8 p.m., Friday, Nov. 12 at the Evergreen Carriage House, 4545 N. Charles St. in Baltimore. Morning Star will appear in place of the originally scheduled band, Anam, due to cancellation of that group's U.S. concert tour.

Morning Star features Irish-born singer, guitarist, and bodhran player Mary Courtney; Margie Mulvihill on tin whistle; John Reynolds on fiddle and John Nolan on button accordion. Formed in 1982, the group's lively, eclectic mixture of traditional and original Irish music has met with rave reviews and several stage and film credits, including Frank McCourt's The Irish and How They Got That Way. The group was also recently chosen to sing and provide music at the memorial mass for John F. Kennedy Jr. at Old St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City.

The Evergreen Carriage House Concert Series is sponsored by the Evergreen House Foundation in honor of its founder, Alice Warder Garrett. Garrett, who lived at Evergreen House from 1920 to 1952, was a patron of the arts who sponsored a string quartet in residence each spring and fall from 1928 to 1942.

Admission to the concert is $10 per person and includes a reception after the performance to meet the artists. For reservations or information, call 410-516-0341.
