The mayors of Baltimore, Washington and Pittsburgh, as well as the former mayor of Philadelphia, will participate in a roundtable discussion on June 21, 2000 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon during an International Urban Fellows conference hosted by the Johns Hopkins Institute for Policy Studies.

More than 40 scholars, policymakers and urban planners from around the world have been in Baltimore since Saturday, studying five areas of concern to older industrial cities. The mayors' roundtable discussion comes on the conference's fifth and final day and will deal with how older industrial cities can address their common problems. The theme of the conference is, "How does a city move from decline to revival?"

Those participating in what promises to be a lively discussion are: Baltimore Mayor Martin O'Malley; Pittsburgh Mayor Tom Murphy; Washington Mayor Anthony Williams; and Edward Rendell, formerly mayor of Philadelphia.

The mayors's roundtable discussion will be from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at the Harbor Inn Pier Five hotel in Baltimore, 711 Eastern Avenue. The session is closed to the general public but open to interested members of the media.

After the mayors' roundtable, the conference participants will report their findings and suggestions for ways of improving Baltimore and other similar cities. That will take place between 3:30 and 5 p.m. in the same location.
