Spaghetti Bridge Contest Set for Nov. 9
Students Will Put Pasta Spans to the Test on
Johns Hopkins Homewood Campus

on display at 1:30 p.m.; Weight competition begins at 3
p.m. |

The Johns Hopkins University Homewood campus, 3400 N.
Charles St., Baltimore, Md. |
What: |
Johns Hopkins students, working in teams
of two or three, are designing and building 17 model
bridges, using only spaghetti and glue. At
Saturday s event, the bridges will be tested to see which
can hold the most weight before it breaks. To date,
the best student bridge has held 64 kilograms (140
lbs). |
Why: |
Freshmen enrolled in an introductory course
called What is Engineering learn important
engineering concepts while designing and building a sturdy
pasta structure. Also, the winning team receives $100. |
Note: |
Spectators are welcome. Admission is
free. |
