Re: New Data on World Nonprofit Sector to be Released on April 15

New data on the size and scope of the nonprofit sector in 13 countries in Africa, the Middle East and South Asia will be released on Tuesday, April 15 in a special briefing at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies in Washington, D.C.

Lester Salamon, director of the Johns Hopkins Center for Civil Society Studies, will present data on these countries plus 22 other countries in a briefing entitled, "Civil Society in Global Perspective: Findings from the Johns Hopkins Comparative Nonprofit Sector Project." Comments will there be offered by a distinguished panel of civil society leaders and experts.

The Comparative Nonprofit Sector Project has been under way for nearly a decade and has gathered, analyzed and reported data in the civil society sector in 22 countries around the world, including the United States, Europe and parts of South America. This new data set is the first attempt to document the nonprofit sector in Africa, the Middle East and South Asia.

The event begins at 8:45 a.m. in the Kenney Auditorium at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, 1740 Massachusetts Avenue, Washington, D.C. The session is closed to the general public, but open to interested members of the media. For more information, please call Mimi Bilzor at 410-516-8541. An electronic copy of the full report will be available upon request.
