Keep your eyes on Presidio Park in San Francisco on
Tuesday, July 29, between noon and 2 p.m., when 25 college
students, including 20 students from Johns Hopkins
University, will triumphantly pedal their racing bikes to
the water to mark the end of a 4,000-mile coast-to-coast
journey known as
Hopkins 4K for
Cancer.
The students will dip their bikes' front tires in the water
before a crowd of cheering family and friends. (The
students christened their back tires in the waters of
Baltimore's Inner Harbor when they hit the road June 1.)
The students spent the summer cycling across America to
raise both money for cancer research and awareness for the
disease's prevention. Hosted by local residents along the
way, the students participated in many community service
projects. The group has raised $40,000 for the American
Cancer Society.
California connections:
May 2003 graduates Andrew Stoddard of Sacramento and Sumeet
Vadera of Cupertino.
