Re: Johns Hopkins' education researchers review software for teachers

Two research scientists at the Center For Social Organization of Schools (CSOS) at Johns Hopkins University will be reviewing commercially available software for teachers during Scaling Up Success: Lessons Learned from Technology-based Educational Improvement, a conference Thursday, March 20, and Friday, March 21, presented by the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

Sam Stringfield and Jeff Wayman, both of Johns Hopkins, and Mary E. Yakimowski-Srebnick, officer of the Division of Research, Evaluation, Assessment and Accountability for the Baltimore City Public School System, are the authors of Scaling Up Data Use in Classrooms, Schools, and Districts. The paper discusses software that enables teachers to use student data to improve achievement. The paper covers what is needed to make the software available for use in nearly any school and includes a review of commercially available software.

More information, including bios of Stringfield, Wayman, and Yakimowski-Srebnick, is available online at http://www.gse.harvard.edu/scalingup/. To speak with Stringfield or Wayman, call Amy Cowles at 410-516-7160.
