Community Partnerships The National Network of Partnership Schools at The Johns Hopkins University recently announced the winners of its fourth annual Partnership Awards, which recognize excellence in developing and sustaining comprehensive programs of school, family and community partnerships. The winners, listed below, demonstrate that schools, districts, states and organizations in diverse locations can use research-based tools and guidelines to improve schools by developing productive partnerships among teachers, administrators, students, families and communities. "In many cases, the award-winners have improved their programs even though school principals, district and state superintendents or other leaders have changed," said Joyce L. Epstein, director of the National Network of Partnership Schools. "These leaders are sending a strong message that family and community involvement is a vital part of good schools, effective teaching and student success." The 2003 Partnership Award-winners are:
