UPDATE ... UPDATE ... UPDATE
Because rain is in the forecast for tomorrow, Baltimore's National Summer Learning Day celebration will take place at Medfield Heights Elementary School, 4300 Buchanan Ave., Baltimore, MD 21211, rather than Patterson Park as originally planned. All other information below remains the same.

More than 300 students and their families will participate in a special field trip to Patterson Park to mark National Summer Learning Day, sponsored by The Center for Summer Learning at The Johns Hopkins University and the Staples Foundation for Learning. The event will feature a children's musician, dinosaur puppet show, science center, book nook, Port Discovery craft center, and an outdoor games area. Participating students will be from the Teach Baltimore, KindergARTen Camp, and the Pleasant View Gardens Boys & Girls Club summer enrichment programs at Medfield Heights, Govans, Dallas Nicholas, Brehms Lane, Holabird, Samuel F. B. Morse, and Belmont elementary schools.

Summer Learning Day is designed to showcase the importance of high-quality summer learning opportunities in the lives of young people and their families. Each year, the Center for Summer Learning works with organizations across the country to highlight the critical role summer programs play in:

  • Sending young people back to school ready to learn;
  • Supporting working families; and
  • Keeping children safe and healthy.
  • Events during the day include a science experiment, crafts, outdoor activities and a book nook. There will also be featured performances by the Beale Street Puppets and Kidsinger Jim. For information, contact Amy Cowles at (443) 287-9960 or Ron Fairchild at (410) 516-6221
