The Johns Hopkins University School of Education will host a summit and roundtable discussion on Learning, Arts, and the Brain on Wednesday, May 6, at 8:30 a.m. at Baltimore's American Visionary Art Museum. Leading researchers, educators, advocates, and policy makers will discuss the latest research findings on arts and cognition and explore future research priorities and opportunities. The summit is sponsored by the Johns Hopkins University Council on K-12 Education and the School of Education's Neuro-Education Initiative, a program supported by the Johns Hopkins University Brain Science Institute.

Speakers include Jerome Kagan, professor of psychology at Harvard University; Guy McKhann founding director of the Zanvyl Krieger Mind / Brain Institute at Johns Hopkins and professor in the Department of Neurology at the university's School of Medicine; William Safire, New York Times columnist and chairman of the DANA Foundation; Dick Deasy, author of Critical Links and Third Space; Michael Posner, professor emeritus at the University of Oregon and adjunct professor of psychology at the Weill Medical College of Cornell; Elizabeth Spelke, professor of psychology and co-director of the Mind, Brain, and Behavior Initiative at Harvard University; Brian Wandell, chair of psychology and member of Electrical Engineering and Radiology at Stanford University; Ellen Winner, professor of psychology at Boston College and senior research associate at Project Zero, Harvard Graduate School of Education; and Gottfried Schlaug; associate professor of neurology, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Harvard Medical School.
