McGarry Promoted to Professor
The university's board of trustees approved the promotion, which takes effect July 1.
McGarry, a 1970 graduate of Harvard University, is a 1983 master's degree recipient of the Writing Seminars and a member of the Hopkins faculty since 1988. She was promoted to associate professor in 1991.
She has published three integrated collections of short stories and a novel in the past 10 years and has been widely published elsewhere, including The New Yorker, The Yale Review and The Southern Review.
She is also considered a first-rate teacher, said Steven Knapp, dean of the Johns Hopkins School of Arts and Sciences.
