How are you going to say you spent your summer vacation?

For many, the answer will be "I spent it in summer school. Really."

Johns Hopkins University is now inviting applications to its summer classes for both day and evening courses at the Homewood campus in Baltimore. Students from colleges and universities other than Hopkins may apply. So, too, may academically talented high school students.

The summer session is offered in two terms, with day and evening classes, the first from June 1 through July 2, and the second from July 6 through August 7.

Offered by the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences, courses cover 27 disciplines, including biology, chemistry, computer science, economics, English, history, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Italian, Spanish, mathematics, physics, political science, psychology, sociology and writing. Evening classes offer languages, film, financial management and history.

The school also offers intensive English as a Second Language classes during the second term.

Call for applications, registration, course catalogues and additional information at (410)516-4548. Or write to the Office of Summer Programs, School of Arts and Sciences, Johns Hopkins University, 230 Mergenthaler Hall, Baltimore, MD 21218. Registration for the first term closes May 28.
