With the opening of the U.S. Supreme Court s session Monday, October 5, you may find a need for background and historical context in addition to expert opinion on current cases and issues being considered.

Joel Grossman, a professor of political science at The Johns Hopkins University and a constitutional law scholar, has taught the subject for more than 30 years. He has been widely quoted and interviewed in local and national media on Supreme Court issues and cases.

A soon-to-be published research paper, The Public vs. the Private President: Striking A Balance, examines issues at the heart of the recent White House scandal. One question Grossman looked at in the paper: Can a sitting President pardon himself?

The answer: yes.

Prior to coming to Hopkins, he taught for many years at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His former students include U.S. Senator Russel D. Feingold and journalist Jeff Greenfield.
