Media Advisory
The Hodson Trust will announce seven-figure gifts to four Maryland colleges and universities that will bring its total donations to the four schools to nearly $150 million. The Hodson Trust has been supporting higher education in Maryland since 1920, when it was created by the family of Col. Clarence Hodson, Beneficial Corp.'s founder, to support excellence in education. This year's gifts to Johns Hopkins University, Hood College, Washington College and St. John's College will be used primarily for scholarships, facilities and research. A number of elected officials will be on hand at the announcement luncheon. Available for interview will be Finn M.W. Caspersen, chairman of the Hodson Trust board of trustees since 1976. He can tell the story of this unique foundation, which started with just a few hundred dollars but now has given away nearly $150 million. For information, contact Eileen Dickey at the Hodson Trust (see contact information above) or Dennis O'Shea at Johns Hopkins at 410-516-7160.
