Michael C. Purdy has joined the staff of The Johns Hopkins University's Office of News and Information as a senior media representative covering the sciences. Purdy started on July 12. Purdy, who graduated with a journalism degree from the University of Missouri at Columbia in 1990, previously served as the basic sciences writer at Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions from 1994 to 1998. Purdy began his professional career working at the U.S. Department of Energy's Ames Laboratory at Iowa State University in 1991. Purdy's new beats at Hopkins University will include physics, astronomy, Earth and planetary sciences, psychology, neuroscience, cognitive science, biology, biophysics, chemistry, mathematics, and history of science, medicine, and technology. In addition to writing news releases on the latest groundbreaking research from these departments, Purdy will be available to help media find faculty members with appropriate expertise for stories.
