In August of 2019 Shirley and I took a two-day trip to Pittsburgh. We left early
on a Wednesday to drive the 5+ hours arriving in the early afternoon. We stayed downtown
and used Uber to get up to Grandview Avenue and back. Grandview runs along a ridge over
the Monongahela River with views back across the river of the entire triangle between the
Allegheny and Monongahela Rivers. Downtown Pittsburgh is between the rivers down to the
point where they come together to form the Ohio River. The city has built several
viewing platforms extending out from the sidewalk on Grandview Avenue. These platforms
were ideal for photographing a panorama of Pittsburgh.
We walked around downtown and I took a number of pictures of some of the interesting
buildings in the area. We walked to the Allegheny River and across the Roberto Clemente
bridge. I took a few pictures from the other side and we came back to downtown across
the Andy Warhol bridge. We stopped at the Primack Bros. for the famous sandwich with
the french fries inside.
On the second day we had dinner at a restaurant in Station Square. Afterward we took
the Monongahela Incline from Station Square back up to Grandview Avenue to take more pictures of Pittsburgh,
this time staying until well after sunset to get pictures of the city lit up for the
night. On the third day (Friday) we got up and had breakfast at the hotel before
driving home. On the way home we made a brief stop at Falling Waters, Frank Lloyd Wright's
famous designed home in the woods of southern Pennsylvania.
