The scanner consists principally of a stationary grayscale CCD camera, a stationary tablet holder, and a movable DLP projector light source, all under computer control.
For any given data set, we project onto the surface of the tablet multiple images which are captured by the camera. Multiple exposures of red, green, and blue light from various angles provide slope and color information, while multiple exposures of variable resolution light stripes provide geometric information. Subsequent computer processing reconciles these multiple data sample sets into one coherent 3D model.
