Adopt-A-Family/Agency Holiday Program -- By participating in this program Johns Hopkins faculty and staff can help provide gifts, clothing and food to a family or agency in need. The program runs in conjunction with the Baltimore City Department of Social Services and various nonprofit health and human welfare agencies. In 1998, members of the Hopkins community adopted 45 families and 14 agencies.

Butterball Turkey Program -- Donations of $15 will purchase a Butterball gift certificate to help a needy family purchase a turkey for the Thanksgiving holiday. To participate, send a $15 check, made payable to JHU Butterball, to the Office of Faculty, Staff & Retiree Programs, Evergreen House, third floor.

Engineering Open House -- The Part-Time Programs in Engineering and Applied Science in the Whiting School of Engineering has scheduled an open house for Monday, Dec. 6, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., at the Applied Physics Laboratory, 11100 Johns Hopkins Road, Laurel, Md.

Participants can learn more about over 13 engineering disciplines, including environmental engineering, information technology and biomedicine with a new concentration in bioinformatics, as well as about a new bachelor's degree in engineering science. Advisers will be on hand.

Student Funding Available -- Two funding programs are available through the Johns Hopkins Alumni Association.

The Community Service Grant Program supports valuable volunteer experiences for students and is intended to foster good relationships between the university and its surrounding communities. The program supports students who design their own service projects or create ventures within existing volunteer organizations. Projects receiving academic credit are not eligible.

The Student Services Funding Program promotes the student experience at Johns Hopkins by providing funding to student groups for campus events, programs and activities that benefit and involve students from all university divisions.

Both programs are open to undergraduate and graduate students. Applications are available at divisional alumni offices, the Office of Volunteer Services in Levering Union, the Office of Alumni Relations at 3211 N. Travel Fellowships -- The Department of Romance Languages and Literatures is accepting applications for two travel fellowships of $2,500 each, reserved for Hopkins graduate students in the humanities who need to be in Italy for their research. The funds are intended to cover round-trip airfare and travel within Italy. Applicants must submit a CV, a description of their project and a letter of support by a Hopkins faculty member familiar with their work. Applicants should also demonstrate that the successful completion of their projects will require the use of Italian literary sources.

Marketing Education Scholarship -- The Baltimore chapter of the American Marketing Association is accepting applications from eligible undergraduates for its $2,000 marketing education merit scholarship award.

To be eligible students must be attending an accredited Maryland college or university on a full-time basis, pursuing a bachelor's degree in marketing or a related course of study, and have sufficient credits to qualify as a junior or senior as of September 2000. Selection of the recipient is based on judging the application, which covers academic achievements, leadership accomplishments and career plan preparation. The $2,000 award, disbursed through the financial aid office of the student's school, may be used for payment of tuition, books or other school supplies.
