Join the JHU Team -- Volunteers are needed for "Make a Difference Day," a Sandtown Habitat for Humanity project scheduled for Sat., April 15, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

JHU staff, faculty and students will join other volunteers from the Baltimore area to do interior renovation of six to eight homes and exterior demolition and landscaping, assist with a Children's Fun Fair, and participate in a new house dedication. The project will take place rain or shine. Lunch will be provided for registered volunteers.

JHU Toastmasters Meeting -- Prepare for formal and extemporaneous speeches by joining Hopkins Toastmasters. The group meets the first Monday and third Tuesday of the month from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Toastmasters is open to all the Hopkins community; however, participation is limited to members who have paid a small amount in dues (to cover the cost of materials).

The Hopkins Toastmasters will meet next in W4013 School of Public Health on Tues., April 18.

Black Fatherhood -- "Becoming Dad: Black Men and the Journey to Fatherhood" will be the topic of a talk by Leonard Pitts Jr. scheduled for Mon., April 24, at noon. The talk, an account of the meaning of black fatherhood in contemporary America, is sponsored by the Black Faculty and Staff Association and WORKlife Programs.

Faith and the City -- "Faith and the City: Locating Children in Interfaith Practice" is a mini-symposium for members and friends of the Greater Homewood community.

Intended for scholars, religious educators, community activists, parents and youth, and child development specialists, the event will take place Wed., April 12, at 6 p.m. at the Bunting-Meyerhoff Interfaith Center at N. Charles Street and University Parkway.

The mini-symposium features panelists Patricia Fernandez-Kelly of Princeton University; C. Edward Robinson of the Ecumenical Institute of Baltimore and Govans Presbyterian Church; Katahanyee Whitt of the Black-Jewish Forum of Baltimore; and Raheemah Raheem of the Interfaith Academy.
