APL Developing Portable Life Support For Army

Johns Hopkins Gazette Online Edition

The Applied Physics Laboratory has received funding from the United States Army, Ft. Detrick, Md., for Phase II development of a portable ventilator and life support system. The small, lightweight package will allow Army medics to deliver critical life support to the front lines of a battlefield, a capability not presently possible.

This is the second stage of a collaborative program between APL's Institute for Advanced Science and Technology in Medicine and its Submarine Technology Department.
