A Day to Care

Johns Hopkins Gazette Online Edition

Tots sat with folded knees decorating miniature pumpkins, and mothers-to-be relaxed with yoga exercises at the Oct. 11 Day of Caring event for the university's 2000 United Way Campaign.

The event, intended as a fun and educational experience, brought university staff together with women and children from Healthy Families Mondawmin/ Penn North, a teen parenting support program of the Family Tree, a United Way agency. It was held at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in northwest Baltimore.

The day's activities included jewelry- and sock puppet- making, demonstrations on how to bake a pumpkin pie, storytelling and an exercise corner. Information on topics such as breast feeding, immunization and health insurance was made available.
