Offices Moved -- The Office of Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action Programs has moved from 205 Garland Hall to 710N Wyman Park Building.

In addition, Hopkins Information Technology Services--the offices of Management Information Systems and of Administration and Finance as well as part of the LAN Services and Technical Services teams--is moving today from 55 Garland Hall to Hopkins at Eastern. The new addresses are Management Information Systems, Suite B001; LAN Services/Technical Services, Suite C030; Administration and Finance, Suite C040. Graduate Student Fellowships -- Applications are invited from graduate students who would like to participate in the Seminar in Italian Studies at the Charles S. Singleton Center for Italian Studies at the Villa Spelman, Florence, in the spring 2002 semester.

The Seminar in Italian Studies is a work-in-progress seminar for all scholars conducting research in Italy. Professor Walter Melion will convene the seminar.

Students from all departments in the humanities are welcome to apply, provided they can demonstrate a need to spend a period of residence in Italy for successful completion of the Ph.D. They should also have completed all requirements except for the dissertation by the time they arrive in Florence in January, and are expected to remain until the end of June. Students will receive a fellowship and a travel allowance, but tuition is not covered.

Eligible students should apply to Walter Stephens in care of the Villa Spelman Office, 268 Mergenthaler, by noon on Monday, Oct. 22. A one-page statement from the student describing the subject of his or her research, together with a brief letter of recommendation from the student's supervisor testifying to the completion or plans for completion of other requirements should also be included. Successful applicants will be notified as soon as possible.

Nominations Invited -- The Committee on Honorary Degrees invites nominations from members of the Johns Hopkins community. Candidates should be individuals with a record of outstanding achievement in a field of human endeavor appropriate for recognition by the university, such as notable academic or public achievement in government, politics, commerce, service or the arts. A connection to the university is desirable.

Letters of nomination, accompanied by a curriculum vitae or biographical information, should be sent to Paula Burger, chair, Committee on Honorary Degrees, Office of the Provost, 265 Garland Hall, by Oct. 18.

Flu Vaccines -- Flu vaccines will be offered free of charge to faculty and staff of the Homewood campus, in the Great Hall at Levering. The schedule is as follows: Tuesday, Oct. 30, 10 a.m. to noon and 2 to 4 p.m.; Wednesday, Oct. 31, 7 to 10 a.m. and 2 to 4 p.m.; and Thursday, Nov. 1, from 10 a.m. to noon and 2 to 4 p.m.

Vaccines will also be administered through the month of November from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Office of Occupational Health Services, W-601 Wyman Park. Flu vaccines will also be offered at the East Baltimore campus. For times and location, call 410-955-6211.

Counseling Center Discussion Groups -- The Counseling Center will hold a weekly meeting of international students to come and discuss shared concerns about adjusting to living in the U.S., Baltimore and Johns Hopkins University. Pilot Project Grants -- The Johns Hopkins NIEHS Center in Urban Environmental Health is offering pilot project grants of up to $15,000 for April 1, 2002, through March 31, 2003, to stimulate new lines of research on such topics as the adverse health impact of hazardous environmental exposures on populations of low socioeconomic status; how the interaction of socioeconomic status and environmental exposure contributes to health disparities; early biological effects of environmental agents in urban populations; community outreach and environmental health education; and the molecular epidemiology, exposure assessment and mechanisms of action of agents found in the urban environment.

The deadline for submissions is January 2, 2002.
