MSEL hosts exhibit honoring university's 125th anniversary

In honor of the 125th anniversary of the founding of the university, the Milton S. Eisenhower Library will host a special exhibit, "From Gilman to Greatness," through May.

Assembled and mounted by Mame Warren, author of Johns Hopkins: Knowledge for the World, and James Stimpert, Homewood archivist, this exhibit offers views and insights into Hopkins' history. Based on holdings of MSEL's Special Collections, it also includes materials from the Alan Mason Chesney Medical Archives, the Archives of the Peabody Institute and other sources.

Photographs, artifacts and commentary cover the origins of the university and important events from its more recent history. The exhibit, which can be seen on M-Level during the library's normal hours, includes many items that figured in the research behind Warren's book, which commemorates the 125th anniversary.

Nursing faculty member helps plan Decade of Behavior

Jacquelyn C. Campbell, Anna D. Wolf Professor and associate dean of the research/doctoral program in the School of Nursing, has been involved in planning a multidisciplinary outreach and education effort known as the Decade of Behavior. Campbell is one of 16 distinguished behavioral and social scientists serving on the National Advisory Committee that provides leadership for this initiative.

The Decade of Behavior, which refers to the years 2000 to 2010, seeks to focus the energy of the behavioral and social sciences on meeting societal challenges like health, safety and education. Its goals include translating research findings into the public policy arena and recruiting new scholars into the behavioral and social science disciplines.

One important development of the initiative is FundSource, a new, searchable database for research funding in the behavioral and social sciences. Many other projects and events are planned over the next several years. For more information, go to http://www.decadeofbehavior.org.

SAIS professor receives honor from Australian government

On January 26, the Australian government appointed Max Corden, Chung Ju Yung Distinguished Professor of International Economics and Business at SAIS, a Companion in the Order of Australia. Corden received this national award for "his service as a leading international economist, particularly in the area of international trade and finance development."

The Order of Australia was established in 1975 to honor Australian citizens and other persons for achievements or meritorious service. Companion is the order's highest level.
