Hopkins Needs Habitat for Humanity Volunteers

This summer and fall, volunteers from Hopkins and two Baltimore area companies, William M. Mercer Inc. and Black & Decker, will join forces with Chesapeake Habitat for Humanity to help renovate homes for low-income prospective home owners in the Waverly neighborhood, near Johns Hopkins at Eastern. Volunteers will assist home ownership candidates and Habitat construction staff in all aspects of construction, including demolition, framing, painting and landscaping.

Workers are needed for Sunday, July 22; Saturday, July 28; Wednesday, Aug. 15; Thursday, August 16; Friday, Aug. 17; Saturday, Aug. 18; Sunday, Aug. 19; Saturday, Sept. 8; Saturday, Sept. 22; and Saturday, Oct. 6.

Volunteers may sign up for one or more days and are expected to commit to working the full day, 8:15 a.m. to 4 p.m. Minors between 14 and 18 may volunteer with the consent of a parent or guardian and should be accompanied by an adult over 21. Chesapeake Habitat for Humanity, a private nonprofit organization, rehabilitates vacant homes in northeast Baltimore City with help from homeowner partners, volunteers and professional contractors. To make home ownership possible to families with an average net income of $12,693, Chesapeake Habitat provides zero-interest mortgages and sells the homes at or below cost to qualified families.
