Homewood and Peabody Staff Are Recognized

Johns Hopkins Gazette Online Edition

Kicking off a series of eight receptions being held this spring to honor staff celebrating anniversaries with the university, an event held May 2 in Homewood's Glass Pavilion recognized 246 individuals from the Homewood campus and Peabody Institute for five, 10 or 15 years of service.

After greetings from Audrey Smith, vice president for human resources, and James McGill, senior vice president for finance and administration, the deans, officers and directors of the various divisions presented awards to each honoree. Fifty-four staff members honored for 15 years of service received cherry wood clocks with the Hopkins seal, 60 honored for 10 years received Lenox crystal Johns Hopkins paperweights and 132 honored for five years received key rings with pewter pendants engraved with the Hopkins seal. Along with a buffet and wine bar, honorees enjoyed a perfect view of the afternoon's dramatic hailstorm taking place outside the pavilion's glass walls.

Commenting on how much the recognition event meant to her, one staff member said that she was especially pleased that her dean had taken the time to shake her hand and personally express his appreciation for her hard work.

Separate receptions will honor staff members in the schools of Medicine and Nursing, the Bloomberg School of Public Health, SAIS, the Sheridan Libraries, JHPIEGO and JHU Press. A recognition dinner on June 4 will honor staff members celebrating milestone anniversaries for 20 or more years of service, and recent retirees.

The Office of Faculty, Staff and Retiree Programs is responsible for the universitywide staff recognition program.
