APL Names Heads of Information Technology Service Department

The Applied Physics Laboratory has appointed Eric Bohn as head and Lora Suther as assistant head of its 240-member Information Technology Service Department, which provides business and management software applications in support of the laboratory's mission. Bohn also serves as the laboratory's chief information officer.

Bohn joined APL's Strategic Systems Department in 1970 and has an extensive background in U.S. Navy research and development efforts associated with submarine technology and detection. He was responsible for the development and operation of the Submarine Technology Department's information communications and business operations. Since assuming the position of CIO in 2001, he has been responsible for the design, development and operation of APL's information technology infrastructure. He holds a bachelor's degree in physics from Drexel University and a master's degree in applied math from Johns Hopkins.

Lora Suther has been responsible for the Space Department's information technology activities. She joined that department in 1979 and has extensive experience in software development and computer systems management for many satellite missions. She holds a bachelor's degree in computer science from Kansas State University.
