ID Required on Johns Hopkins Shuttles

Johns Hopkins Gazette Online Edition

As a precaution after national and state threat levels were raised on Feb. 12 to orange for high risk for terrorist attacks, Johns Hopkins implemented an ID procedure for riders of the Homewood/Peabody/JHMI and Eastern intercampus shuttles.

Although the level was reduced on Feb. 27 to yellow, the university and health system have decided to continue the "ID to ride" requirement. All drivers are required to ask faculty, staff and students to present their Johns Hopkins ID.

Divisions and departments that invite prospective students, faculty and/or staff to use the shuttle are asked to send these guests a separate letter authorizing them to ride the shuttle or, alternatively, notify them that they will need to show the drivers related correspondence written on Johns Hopkins letterhead. Family members of employees also must have authorization on letterhead. Patients and their families can show an appointment card and another form of proper ID.

Plans are being put into place for other riders, such as guests at Peabody's Elder Hostel. Anyone with questions can contact Lt. George Kibler at 410-516-6628 or call their campus security office.

The Homewood/Peabody/JHMI shuttle has roughly 3,000 passenger boardings each weekday. The Eastern shuttle transports an additional 100 passengers daily.
