The Johns Hopkins University Committee on the Status
of Women is soliciting nominations for new members from the
campus community.
The primary mission of the committee is to be an
advocate for the entire community of women at Johns
Hopkins. This community includes undergraduate and graduate
students, faculty and staff. To achieve its mission, the
committee advises the provost on issues related to women,
gender and diversity; investigates, studies and makes
recommendations concerning the needs of women in the
university community; provides general oversight,
monitoring and guidance on a variety of universitywide
initiatives that address issues affecting the status of
women at the university; communicates and collaborates with
other groups concerned with gender and diversity; educates
the community about women's issues; and celebrates women's
accomplishments.
The UCSOW meets once a month, and subcommittees
generally meet monthly; therefore, prospective members
should anticipate a monthly time commitment of two to four
hours.
Nominations should include a short biography and a
statement of the reasons why you believe the nominee should
be appointed to the committee. Self-nominations are
encouraged and should include a short biography and the
applicant's reasons for wishing to serve on the committee.
All nominations should be forwarded to Ray Gillian, Office
of Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action Programs, 130
Garland Hall, Homewood campus. Envelopes should be marked
"University Committee on the Status of Women
Nomination."
The deadline for receiving nominations is Aug. 29.
Questions or comments may be directed to Ray Gillian at
