Adopt-a-Stream

Volunteers are needed to help track stream health, erosion, water quality, bio-indicators and other measurements to monitor stream quality. Choose your own stream segment or the Jones Falls Watershed Association, a program of the Greater Homewood Community, will help you find a stream to adopt. Work as an individual or a group. Youth Mentors Needed

The Youth Violence Prevention Program needs mentors to work with children for six sessions. On completion, each mentor will receive a $240 stipend. For more information, call Peggy Miller at 410-614-6415 or e-mail mgatto@jhmi.edu.

 

Crossing the Borders

An informational and planning meeting for the Johns Hopkins International Society's "Crossing the Borders" program is scheduled for 5 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 16, at 1124 Reed Hall, East Baltimore campus. "Crossing the Borders" is a series of panel discussions designed to inform Hopkins affiliates about the many cultures represented at JHMI.

The group seeks volunteers who are internationals or have lived in another country for at least one year to participate in panels. For information, call Erin McAlister at 410-955-3370 or emcalis1@jhmi.edu.

 

Molecular Imaging Pilot Project Grants

Pilot project grant funds are available to support innovative projects in molecular imaging.

Studies may involve basic, translational and preclinical approaches to development of molecular imaging capabilities, broadly related to cancer detection, prevention, diagnosis or therapy. Cross-disciplinary approaches are encouraged.

All faculty members with a cancer-related molecular imaging project, written in collaboration with a faculty member from the Department of Radiology, may apply. Grants in the range of $7,000 to $10,000 will be awarded for a period of one year, with the potential for renewal for an additional year. Support may be requested for supplies and technical salaries.

Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine Pilot Funds

The Johns Hopkins Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine is offering pilot funds for developmental and feasibility studies in the clinical and basic sciences.

Awards of $20,000 to $50,000 will be given per project per year. Deadline for proposals is Sept. 15. Interested investigators may e-mail a proposal as a Word attachment to rschwart@welch.jhu.edu. For information, call 410-614-5678.
