Professional Clothing Drive
Gently used or new professional clothing can be dropped off
at various locations throughout the university on Thursday,
July 22, to benefit formerly homeless men and women who are
entering the workforce. The clothing, which must be
gender-separated, will be picked up on Friday and delivered
to Christopher Place Employment Academy (for men), and the
Women's Housing Coalition.
For information on drop-off locations and the type of
clothing needed, go to

The
Office of Faculty, Staff and Retiree Programs is

Grant Writing Workshop
The Professional Development Office at JHMI is sponsoring a
two-day grant-writing workshop, open only to junior
faculty. All participants must attend the first session,
which is designed to assist first-time applicants with
writing an NIH or other peer-reviewed research proposal.
The workshop focuses on the NIH research plan, including
the abstract and specific aims, background and
significance, preliminary studies, and research design and
methods. This session will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on
Friday, Aug. 6, in the Tilghman Auditorium.
The second part of the workshop consists of small
group discussions of participants' abstracts and specific
aims. Participants will choose one of three dates--Aug. 20,
Sept. 8 or Sept. 10--for this session, which is scheduled
from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the 1830 Building, room 2-108. One
week prior to the second session, participants must submit
a draft of their abstract and specific aims. In addition to
discussing these sections of the application in small
groups, all participants will receive a written critique of
their abstract and specific aims from the course
instructor, Wendy Sanders, director of the Professional
Development Office and a member of the School of Medicine
faculty.
