Awards for Student and Staff Involvement

Applications are invited for two Homewood awards: the Student Council's Excellence Awards for Leadership and Service, which are presented to students and staff for important contributions to student activities; and the Office of Student Involvement's Outstanding Program and Organization Awards, presented to student organizations for meritorious service and programs. Applications are available online at sts.jhu.edu/studentinvolvement. Deadline is March 14.

 

Women's Leadership Award

The Women's Network is accepting nominations for the fourth annual Women's Leadership Award, which will be presented at the spring luncheon on May 14.

Any employee may nominate a woman who has provided leadership to others at the university. All nominations must be submitted on the form available at www.jhu.edu/~wforum.

A panel will review the nominations using the following criteria: motivation of women in their work and community; development of leadership skills in others; mentoring of others in their work; increasing employee knowledge of critical issues facing an office, division or department; and strengthening commitment of faculty, staff and students to the university. One winner will be chosen from each chapter: APL, Bayview, Homewood and JHMI.

All nominations must be received no later than April 1. All nominators and award recipients will be notified by April 15. For more information contact Noelia Cantu at ncantu@jhsph.edu.

 

Aitchison Public Service Undergraduate Fellowship Applications

The School of Arts and Sciences is accepting applications for the Aitchison Public Service Undergraduate Fellowship in Washington, D.C. This residential program gives juniors and seniors the opportunity to earn 15 credits while gaining experience in the capital during the fall semester.

Aitchison fellows take three academic courses taught by Hopkins faculty; intern with elected officials, lobbyists or civil servants; develop an individual research project based on the internship; attend lectures by White House consultants, ambassadors and journalists; have the option of taking a related graduate course; receive $800 toward housing at the University of California dorms; and explore the social and cultural resources of Washington.

Homewood Fitness, CPR Classes

Classes in muscle conditioning and toning, CPR/AED and yoga are being offered to Homewood faculty and staff by the Office of Benefits Administration, in conjunction with the Department of Occupational Health Services.

Yoga classes (all levels) will be from noon to 1 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays beginning March 22. Cost for the 10-week session is $30/$50 for once/twice a week.

Seated massage by a certified massage therapist will continue to be offered at Homewood and Eastern. The cost is $10.

Muscle conditioning and toning classes will be from 12:15 to 1 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning March 23 on the Homewood campus. The 10-week session is $25/$45 for once/twice a week.

A CPR/AED class will be held on the Homewood campus from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on April 1, at no cost to faculty and staff.
