Homewood Arts Program Certificate

Graduating seniors who have made a significant contribution to the nonacademic arts at Johns Hopkins may apply for the Homewood Arts Program Certificate. The certificate acknowledges and rewards long-term and dedicated participation in one of five areas: dance, music, theater, digital media and fine/visual arts. The award will not appear on a student's academic transcript, but successful applicants may include it in resumes and portfolios.

Students apply as juniors; the deadline this year is March 1. Dance, music and theater applicants must have participated in six semesterlong co-curricular activities, and digital media/fine arts students in four semesterlong co-curricular activities. As seniors, applicants must submit a proposal for an original final project by Oct. 15 and the completed project itself before the end of the following semester.

For more information and application materials, contact Eric Beatty, director of the Homewood Arts Program, at ebeatty@jhu.edu.

Research Coordinator Training Program

An 11-session course covering the core competencies required to administer and direct human subjects research projects begins March 3. Jointly sponsored by the schools of Medicine, Nursing and Public Health, the course will be held from 8:30 to 10 a.m. on Wednesdays. Topics include IRBs, recruiting, data management, informed consent, adverse events and quality assurance/quality control. For more information, go to www.ijhn.jhmi.edu/ResearchCoordinator/default.asp or call 443-287-4746.

JHU Summer Day Sports Camp

Summer camp on the Homewood campus will begin its 38th year of operation June 21. Operated primarily for the children of Hopkins faculty, staff, alumni and neighbors, the co-ed program is for children 5 through 13. This year, enrollment is being capped for the six sessions, and a 10 percent discount is being offered to JHU employees who send in deposits by March 1.

The directors will be swimming coach George Kennedy, men's basketball coach Bill Nelson and head baseball coach Robert Babb.

Due to construction on the JHU pool, there will be no swimming activities this year; however, the program will be using the new, air-conditioned recreation center for many activities. Hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, but campers may be dropped off as early as 8:15 a.m. and be picked up as late as 5:10 p.m

If you have not received an application by e-mail, or if you have any questions, contact co-director Robert Babb or Jack Newell, who handles day-to-day operations, at 410-516-7485.
