Red Cross Calls for Blood Donations to Offset Holiday Shortfall

The Greater Chesapeake and Potomac Blood Services Region of the American Red Cross is reporting unusually low blood donation appointments recently due to poor weather, spring breaks at some colleges and family holiday activities. The GC&P Region is urging all eligible donors to give blood at the university's Homewood blood drive on Tuesday, April 13, and Wednesday, April 14, from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. in Levering Hall's Glass Pavilion.

Walk-in donors are welcome, but having scheduled appointments allows the Red Cross to allocate adequate staff to make the drives run smoothly. To make an appointment or to volunteer at the drive, go to www.jhu.edu/outreach/blooddrive or call 410-516-0138. Potential donors should check current eligibility guidelines, including those related to travel, before signing up for an appointment. Guidelines can be found on the Web site, and specific questions can be answered by American Red Cross staff at 800-GIVE-LIFE.
