Day of Caring Project

Help make a difference in the life of a child in our community by participating in Johns Hopkins' Day of Caring Project at St. Jerome's Head Start, a child care center that provides academic skills training to children from low-income families. This program enables children to be better prepared when entering kindergarten, thereby improving the likelihood of their success during their academic careers. Volunteers are needed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 12, to accompany 4- and 5-year-olds on a trip to a pumpkin farm. Transportation and lunch will be provided. Each volunteer will have one to two children and should be prepared for an active day. If you are interested in participating, contact Jacklyn Coe at jcoe@jhu.edu or 410-516-6060.

Employees Involved With United Way

Are you currently volunteering or receiving services at a United Way agency, or know someone at Hopkins who is? If so, would you be willing to share this information with your colleagues so that many can better understand the importance of the United Way in our community? Local agencies including Greater Homewood Community Corp., the Family Tree, Center for Poverty Solutions, American Cancer Society and St. Jerome's Head Start are some praiseworthy examples of your campaign contributions at work. To share your story, contact Lesley Giles at 410-516-0373 or lgiles2@jhu.edu.

The Johns Hopkins Ballroom Dance Club is offering a weekly Argentine tango class at the beginner-intermediate level with professional instructor Maximiliano Gonzalez from Argentina. This eight-week series is scheduled from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Monday evenings, beginning Oct. 4., in the Great Hall, Levering, on the Homewood campus. The entire session costs $65 per person, $120 per couple. To sign up, e-mail jhbdc@yahoo.com or go to www.jhu.edu/ballroom for more information.

Talented Johns Hopkins students, faculty and staff are invited to apply for the Homewood Arts Program's Fall Festival Variety Show, scheduled from 7 to 9:30 p.m. on Sat., Oct. 2, location TBA. Share your talent with friends and co-workers in solo performances or small groups.
