A Lesson in Carbo-Loading
It didn't shatter the record — which still
stands at 64 kilos — but Durty Sturdy left other
wannabes in shards as it took on 56 kilos to become the
weight-carrying winner in the School of Engineering's
recent Spaghetti Bridge Competition. The champion builders
were Victoria Soto and Ryan Wade (not shown), whose
structure bested all the other freshman-built
pasta-and-epoxy glue entrants. The winners took home $100,
and — like all students whose bridges carried a
certain amount based on their size — get to skip the
final in their introductory course, which is called What Is
Engineering?
