Annual Foam Core Competition
Professor Art Shoukas serves as a referee at the
annual Foam Core Engineering Competition, in which teams of
biomedical
engineering freshmen compete to see who can design the
best low-tech devices to maneuver a ping-pong ball around a
course. The teams had two minutes each to navigate twice
around a large square without touching the ball with their
hands and without allowing it to touch the ground. Matthew
Lalli can be seen here packing a punch with a device that
enabled an extra-long reach to send a ball to one of his
teammates. The event was held Oct. 16 in conjunction with
fall Open House, enabling future students and their parents
to watch the fun. Shoukas, a professor of biomedical
engineering, shared the refereeing duties with Robert
Allen, a senior lecturer in the program.
