A classmate mourned
Hopkins community gathers to celebrate the life of slain undergrad


Tuesday morning's memorial service for Christopher Elser on the Keyser Quadrangle.

On a beautiful, breezy Tuesday morning, 2,000 students gathered on Homewood's Keyser Quadrangle clad in flip-flops, shorts and other summertime clothes, dressed to remember 20-year-old Christopher Elser, a fun-loving junior whose life had ended tragically two days earlier.

JHU Press names new director
Kathleen Keane's M.B.A. thesis was titled "Pricing Scholarly Books: A Supervised Business Study." She says the project gave her an "excellent introduction" to practical economics, and to university press publishing. If that was indeed an introduction, the subjects certainly made a very good first impression, as they would become the cornerstones of her distinguished career.

Hopkins Hillel opens doors to its new Charles Street home
Johns Hopkins Hillel will celebrate on Sunday the opening of its new facility, the Smokler Center for Jewish Life, Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Building. The building dedication will be held at 11 a.m. in a tent adjacent to Garland Hall.
