New in the neighborhood
Urban Health Institute adds first postdocs to its team in East Baltimore

Their feet may still be getting wet as they navigate the complexities of their next education path, but, more importantly, they're here.
   In November, the Johns Hopkins Urban Health Institute welcomed its first three postdoctoral fellows, kicking off a major academic phase for the three-year-old institute charged with marshaling the resources of the university and health system to improve the health outcomes of the residents of East Baltimore — an area of the city shackled with some of the most alarming health care indicators in the nation.

Internet voting plan not safe
A federally funded online absentee voting system scheduled to debut in less than two weeks has security vulnerabilities that could jeopardize voter privacy and allow votes to be altered, according to a report prepared by four prominent researchers invited to analyze the system. All experts in cyber-security, they say the risks associated with Internet voting cannot be eliminated and urge that the system be shut down.

U.S. nonprofits stressed but coping, survey finds
U.S. nonprofit organizations experienced significant fiscal stress over the past year but still managed to increase services and boost revenue, according to a new report by the Johns Hopkins Center for Civil Society Studies as part of its Nonprofit Listening Post Project.
