Data Users Workshop

A free workshop titled "Data Resources for Public Health: Spotlight on the National Ambulatory Medical Care Survey and National Hospital Ambulatory Medical Care Survey" is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, Oct. 26. The Eisenhower and Welch Medical libraries are sponsoring the workshop, which has room for 12 participants.

NAMCS and NHAMCS data are used to statistically describe the patients who use physician services and hospital outpatient and emergency department services, the conditions most often treated, and the diagnostic and therapeutic services rendered, including medications prescribed. Public health policy-makers, health services researchers, medical schools, physician associations, epidemiologists and the media use the data to describe and understand the changes that occur in medical care requirements and practices.

The workshop will provide an overview of the surveys, including sample design, methodology, weighting and the questionnaires, and will provide practice accessing the microdata. Participants will do exercises on how to extract data using SETS and how to use SAS statements. The workshop will be held in Lab 1, 2024 East Monument St.

To register, complete the registration form available at www.welch.jhu.edu/classes/regform.pdf and fax it to 410-614-3810.

For questions about registration, contact Denise McCarty at training@jhmi.edu. For questions about the workshop, contact Sharon Morris at smorris@jhu.edu.
