The tourney, which was hosted by the Center for Talented Youth, welcomed 120 students from kindergarten through eighth grade to CTY's new headquarters at Mt. Washington.

Another Johns Hopkins connection: Linda Lee, assistant professor of gastroenterology in the School of Medicine, led efforts last year to revive chess in the city schools. A grant from the Abell Foundation now supports the program.
