Museum Shops Sale

The museum shops at Evergreen House and Homewood House are having an inventory reduction sale during February, with 10 percent off on all books and 25 percent to 50 percent off on all other merchandise. Member discounts will not be honored on 40 percent to 50 percent items, and prior purchases are excluded.

The sale is scheduled for Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. Free parking is available at both museums. For more information, call 410-516-0341 (Evergreen) and 410-516-5589 (Homewood).

 

Presentation and Grant- and Paper-Writing Workshops

The Professional Development Office is offering three daylong workshops for faculty and postdoctoral fellows to build critical skills for presentations, grant writing and paper writing. The first workshop, on Feb. 23, is titled "Giving a Research Talk" and will be held in room 2-108 of the 1830 Building. Faculty can pay the $750 fee by tuition remission; postdocs and fellows can pay their $375 fee by M&S form or check.

A grant-writing workshop will be held March 20 in Tilghman Auditorium. The fee for faculty is $1,100; for postdocs and fellows, $550, payable as above.

"Writing a Biomedical Research Paper" is scheduled for April 21 in the Bodian Conference Room, 1830 Building. The fees for this workshop are $750 for faculty and $375 for postdocs and fellows, payable as above.

NASA Student Research Program

The NASA 2006 Undergraduate Student Research Program is now accepting applications for 10-week summer sessions and 15-week fall sessions. Applications are due Feb. 20.

The program offers challenging research experience at a NASA center. Aligned with NASA's research and development mission, the USRP program provides rising juniors and seniors with a technical mentor and hands-on experience. Students receive weekly stipends of $500, plus a travel allowance. The USRP program seeks to extend and strengthen NASA's commitment to educational excellence and university research.

USMLE and Board Exams Test Preparation

The Welch Library now has a subscription to Exam Master Online, a test preparation site for the USMLE and board exams. This service provides medical subject outlines for targeted learning; thousands of questions and explanations; USMLE data organized according to NBME USMLE examination guidelines; detailed test results and examination history; and timed test and study modes.

Users can easily build exams by USMLE outline or by medical subject. Pre-built exams are available for USMLE products. To use Exam Master, go to the E-Resources page and type in "USMLE." Users will need to register and create an ID and password.

Donations to Greenmount Recreation Center

The JHU Center for Social Concern is celebrating its 10th year of partnership with Baltimore City's Greenmount Recreation Center. The center has submitted a wish list of needed items such as a pool table, copier and a piano.
