New tools and devices designed and built by undergraduate
and graduate students in
Biomedical
Engineering will be showcased during BME Design Day,
which will be held on Tuesday, May 9, in Hodson Hall at
Homewood.
The event, open to the entire university community, will
provide a glimpse of some of the latest biomedical
inventions developed by students and faculty in the
department. Some past design projects have led to patent
filings and licensing agreements.
At 8:30 a.m., President William R. Brody and Whiting
School Dean Nicholas Jones will deliver opening remarks in
room 210. From 9 to 11 a.m., also in room 210, student
teams will demonstrate and discuss some of their
projects. Poster presentations will follow in the Hodson
lobbies.
At noon in room 110, Murray Sachs, director of Biomedical
Engineering, will introduce the guest lecturer,
bioethicist Arthur Caplan. Caplan, a nationally known
writer and broadcast commentator, is director of the
Center for Bioethics at the University of Pennsylvania.
Additional design projects will be presented at 2 p.m. in
room 210, followed by the announcement of awards and prize
presentations for the top projects. Activities will
conclude with a reception in the main lobby, beginning at
4:30 p.m.
