Dalal J. Haldeman, an experienced health care industry
executive and a specialist in marketing, public relations
and business development, is the new vice president for
marketing and corporate communications for Johns Hopkins
Medicine.
Haldeman was selected after a national search to
direct the full-service internal and external
communications and marketing office for JHM. She will be
moving to Hopkins in February after seven years as director
of marketing operations for the Cleveland Clinic Health
System.
In making the announcement, Edward D. Miller, dean and
CEO of Johns Hopkins Medicine, and Ronald R. Peterson,
president of The Johns Hopkins Hospital and Health System,
said in a joint statement, "Dalal Haldeman is unusually
well-prepared to enhance and lead an already robust
enterprise in new strategic directions at a time of intense
competition among academic medical centers and tremendous
growth at Johns Hopkins Medicine."
Steve Thompson, senior vice president of JHM, said,
"Her background in quality improvement, strategic planning,
market research, clinical practice marketing, branding and
Web site development, as well as her management experience,
brings many essential skills to an enormously complex set
of institutions with multiple communications needs."
Haldeman earned a bachelor's degree in biology and
chemistry in 1972 and a master's degree in nutrition in
1975 from the American University of Beirut. She went on to
receive a doctorate in food science from Pennsylvania State
University in 1979 and an MBA from Cleveland State
University in 1991.
Prior to her current position at Cleveland Clinic, she
was vice president of Pediatric Medical Management and
director of marketing and business development at Cleveland
Clinic Children's Hospital for Rehabilitation from 1995 to
1998. Before that, she was associate vice
president/consultant at Sterling Health Capital Management
in New York, general manager of Meridia Healthcare
System/Marriott Corp. in Cleveland, corporate director of
quality for the MetroHealth System in Cleveland and
assistant professor/manager of ambulatory services at
Presbyterian Hospital of the University of Pittsburgh.
Haldeman serves as president of the Epilepsy
Association of Northeast Ohio and on the editorial board of
Redspring Magazine. She is also on the boards of the
Institute for Creative Leadership, the Society for
Healthcare Strategy and Market Development, and Central
Hospital Services. She is affiliated with the American
College of Healthcare Executives and the Forum for
Healthcare Strategists. She is past president of the
Healthcare Executives Association of Northeast Ohio and
former vice president of the Cleveland International
Program.
She has earned numerous awards for quality-related Web
site products, including the eHealthcare Strategy and
Trends Leadership Award in 2004 for Quality Web Site
development.
JHM's newly named Office of Marketing and Corporate
Communications provides marketing, media relations,
advertising, electronic media, publications writing and
production, design, Web site development, event planning,
special project management and other services to faculty
and staff of its member institutions.
The office has been led for almost a quarter century
by Elaine K. Freeman, who is retiring as vice president for
corporate communications.
