Evergreen House Creates Student Curator Internship
Position
By Heather Stalfort Historic Houses
A new exhibition series at Evergreen House
called Evergreen in Focus represents the strongest
conceivable collaboration between the museum's professional
staff and the university's promising scholars.
Each summer and fall, a student will obtain hands-on
experience in the curatorial profession by producing a
small exhibition exploring an Evergreen-related topic,
offering a rare educational opportunity to undergraduate
students who are preparing for professional and scholarly
careers, particularly at museums. The student curator will
be fully integrated into Evergreen, working closely with
museum staff and under the supervision of the museum
curator. "This is an ultimate DIY experience for any
student interested in museum work," said Evergreen curator
Jackie O'Regan.
"Museum interns often contribute their time and
energies to an exhibition that may take years of research
and planning before opening to the public," she said.
"We're offering students the rare chance to curate an
entire exhibition of their own design, drawing on the broad
range of materials in our substantial collections and
archives."
Applications for the summer 2007 position are due
Friday, March 23, and will be vetted through the new
Museums and Society Program in the Krieger School of Arts
and Sciences. For more information, contact Jackie O'Regan
at
